WATSONVILLE — Three people were shot and a man was arrested Monday evening in Watsonville.

Manuel Adrian Perez faces attempted murder charges. His bail has been set at $375,000, Michelle Pulido of the Watsonville Police Department said.

Around 7:10 p.m. police got a call regarding shots fired in a home on the 600 block of Rodriguez Street. The first police to arrive at the older style, two-story home found three people, including a teenage girl, suffering from gunshot wounds.

“All three people were taken to local hospitals,” Pulido said. “Within those three people we have the suspect who was also shot. Everyone is in stable condition.”

Police have learned that Perez was upset with a 46-year-old man over an interaction the victim had with one of Perez’ family members earlier in the day.

Perez and the man lived on the second story of the home that has been converted into multiple living spaces. Their front doors are about 4-feet apart, Pulido said.

Perez was armed with a handgun when he knocked on the victim’s door, which resulted in a dispute and then a struggle over the gun. During the struggle, the gun went off and injured three people, including Perez and the teen girl.

The male victim has since been released from the hospital. The girl is awaiting surgery, but is expected to be OK, Pulido said.

Detectives recovered the handgun believed to have been used in the shooting. The gun is registered to Perez, Pulido said.

Police could be seen scouring the house with their flashlights well into the night as clutches of curious neighbors gathered nearby to watch the action unfold. Police surrounded the home with yellow crime scene tape and brought in their crime scene van to aid with their investigation, which is ongoing.
