WATSONVILLE — A man was arrested Tuesday night after he was reportedly spotted selling drugs from his vehicle.

Around 10:35 p.m., Watsonville Police officers were dispatched to a report of a man selling drugs out of his vehicle on the 100 block of Grant Avenue. Officers contacted Ruben Lopez in the driver’s seat of his vehicle.

An officer noticed a bag of marijuana in plain view on the backseat of the vehicle, said Sgt. Mish Radich. Upon further search of the vehicle, officers reportedly found nearly one ounce of suspected methamphetamine and six ounces of marijuana concealed in the vehicle along with drug packaging materials.

A bank bag was found concealed underneath the vehicle’s hood, Radich said.

Lopez was arrested for methamphetamine and marijuana for sales and taken to the Watsonville Police Department for booking.

During booking, Lopez was found to have more than $4,000 in cash in his pockets, police said. A California Highway Patrol officer narcotics detection K-9 “Buddy” was summoned to the police department to sniff the bank bag. More than $24,000 in cash was found inside of the bag.

Lopez was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.

A judge increased bail to $50,000 because Lopez was already out on bail for a separate drug sales case.
