Maybelle Ley Hart Corrigan was born May 18, 1917 in Santa Cruz and her 100th birthday was celebrated with her last May by her many family and friends in Pleasant Hill, California where she had lived for the past several years. She passed from this life on Thanksgiving Day, 2017.
She was the daughter of George and May Ley and a native and lifetime resident of Santa Cruz County calling Felton, Santa Cruz and Watsonville home throughout those years.
She graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1935, went on to graduate from Stanford University in 1939, and then on to Katherine Gibbs Finishing School, before marrying Ed Hart in October 1941.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands Ed Hart and John Corrigan; her sons Jeff and Randy Hart; her brothers and their wives Don and Vangie Ley, Les and Jeanne Ley; her brother-in-law and his wife Ed and Isabelle Webber; and her stepson John “Jack” Corrigan, Jr. As with most who live to be 100 there are dozens and dozens of other family members and friends on this list.
Maybelle served the Watsonville Presbyterian Church both as an Elder, a decision-making leader, and a care-giving Deacon, and was active on many church committees, including a food ministry in which the church “adopted” 70 families from a nearby labor camp and supplied them with food monthly. Maybelle and John frequently attended classes the church held on theology and the Bible and the dinners that preceded those classes.
John and Maybelle traveled extensively throughout the world and both enjoyed playing golf in Watsonville and Salinas and on their travels.
She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Lynn Hart and Linda Hart, John’s children Barbara, Elizabeth “Bets” and Tom, and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren from the Hart and Corrigan families.
Those who knew her will remember her forever and miss her fun loving nature, her smile and her love and laughter.
