The Cabrillo College women’s volleyball team kept its perfect record intact on Saturday with a pair of sweeps over Sacramento City College and Fresno City College in the opening day of the Cabrillo College Classic.

Against Fresno, Jolie Samuelson had a team-high 14 kills and made 19 digs, while Rebecca Lee and Camryn Rocha chimed in with 11 and nine kills, respectively. Mari Molina recorded 38 assists, two aces, two kills and four digs.

Against Sac City, Amanda Meserve had four blocks and eight kills.

Cabrillo (8-0) continues its season on Wednesday night at home with a match against Foothill College at 6:30 p.m.

GIRL’S VOLLEYBALL

• Carmel 3, Aptos 0 – The Aptos High Mariners fell in a 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 sweep to Carmel High on Friday night in non-league action the road.

Cam Dueck had 18 digs and Peyton Dueck added 10 digs and four aces. Jillian Rodriguez and Madelin Smith finished with 10 and seven kills, respectively.

Aptos travels to Soquel High tonight at 6:30 p.m. for a pivotal Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League match against the Knights.

HS CROSS COUNTRY

• Pair of locals finish fourth – Watsonville High freshman Layla Ruiz and Aptos High senior Marea Zlatunich finished fourth overall in their respective race of the Earlybird invitational on Saturday at Toro Park in Salinas.

Ruiz completed the 3-mile course in 19 minutes, 34 seconds, while Zlatunich crossed the finish line in 18:23.

North Monterey County High junior Faith Mora also finished in the top-20 of her race, taking 14th in 20:24.

Aptos senior Sofia Natividad was 18th (20:14) in the senior race, Kailea Zlatunich was 18th (20:22) in the sophomore race and Mariners’ freshman Susana Estrada was 18th (20:42) in her race.

Aptos’ Koya Oki was the fastest local boy on Saturday, finishing 29th in the senior race at 16:52. Fellow Mariners seniors, Luis Garcia and Jorge Benitez, followed closely in 30th (16:53) and 32nd (16:57).

MEN’S JC SOCCER

• Cabrillo 3, Modesto 0 – The Cabrillo College Seahawks posted their third shutout of the season in a 3-0 non-conference win over Modesto College on Friday night at Carl Conelly Stadium in Aptos.

Steve Lopez and Walmer Martinez each scored a goal and dished an assist, while Omar Ismail also scored.

Cabrillo (4-1) plays at West Valley College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in its preseason finale.
