SANTA CRUZ — On April 17, about 50 men from businesses across Santa Cruz County donned high heels and participated in a special fundraising walk.
In order to raise funds for the upcoming “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes,” organized by Monarch Services, the men gathered at Santa Cruz County Bank’s (SCCB) main headquarters on River Street in Santa Cruz for a ‘pre-walk’ event.
This is the sixth year that the bank has held the pre-walk. This year, representatives from Swenson Builders, Bay Federal Credit Union, Sandbar Solar & Electric, Santa Cruz Warriors (the Ballers), Workbench and local breweries including Lupulo, Discretion Brewing and Woodhouse Blending & Brewing joined the SCCB employees.
“Walk A Mile in Her Shoes” aims to promote awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault. Monarch Services will host its seventh annual walk on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., beginning at Lighthouse Point on West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz.
Monarch Services invites the community—men, women, kids and dogs—to put on pairs of red shoes and join the walk. You can also donate without walking and still support the cause.

Monarch Services’ mission is to aid domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking survivors and their families through counseling, legal advocacy and accompaniment to sexual assault forensic exams, as well as teen dating violence prevention programs in local junior high and high schools.
