WATSONVILLE — Four people were arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly taking part in a robbery and shooting at a residence on the 20 block of Rancho Road, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Clark said Monday.

Benjamin Cantu of Delano and David Lomeli of McFarland were charged with attempted murder, burglary and kidnapping, among other charges. They were booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $375,000 bail.

Two 17-year-old males were also arrested in connection with the crime, Clark said.

According to Clark, Cantu, Lomeli and the two juveniles were at the residence for an unknown reason when the robbery occurred.

It is unclear why the four were at the residence. It is also unknown what was stolen, Clark said.

Santa Cruz Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of shots fired at the residence. When they arrived they found a male victim with a single gunshot wound to his abdomen.

They also found five additional victims – a woman and four men – at the residence.

The suspects had fled, and were arrested nearby, Clark said.
