Buddhist Temple holding annual dinner

WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville Buddhist Temple will be holding its 56th Annual Chicken Teriyaki Dinner on Saturday. 

Dinner is $12, which includes half a chicken, rice, cabbage salad, a vegetable, and fortune cookie. 

All dinners are “take-out” only, and can be picked up by using the drive-thru from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Watsonville Buddhist Temple, 423 Bridge St.

Class focuses on seed saving

WATSONVILLE — The UC Master Gardeners will hold a free class on seed saving Saturday. 

UC Master Gardener Carole King will guide participants on how to select, collect and store seeds from plants that thrive in the specific environment of a garden.

The class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the MG Demonstration Garden next to the rear parking lot of the Santa Cruz County building at 1430 Freedom Blvd. in Watsonville. To save a seat, register at mbmg.org.

This class is part of a free monthly series that ends for the season on Oct. 28 with “Succulent Care and Plant Exchange.” The UC Master Gardeners also invite home gardeners to their “Hands on With Master Gardeners” days at the Watsonville Demonstration Garden every Wednesday morning and every third Saturday of the month through October. Gardeners are invited to drop by any time those days between 9 a.m. and noon.

Dog training classes offered

WATSONVILLE — The nonprofit Monterey Dog Training Club Inc. will be offering dog training classes starting Sept. 26 and 28 at two locations in Santa Cruz County.

• Sept. 26 in the Crosetti Building at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, 2601 East Lake Ave., Watsonville  

• Sept. 28 at the Mid-County Senior Center, 829 Bay Ave., Capitola

All levels of training are taught by professional trainers: puppy, beginning, intermediate and advanced.

Cost is $90 per eight-week session. Evening and night classes are available.

Seminar discusses identity theft

WATSONVILLE — Fiaau Ohmann, a LegalShield independent associate, will hold two separate sessions on identity theft on Sept. 28.

The seminar will define identity theft, and describe what steps to take to be proactive and preventative in fighting the crime.

Sessions will be offered at 7 a.m. and noon. The seminar will be held at the Pajaro Valley Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, 44 Brennan St. in Watsonville.

SACO hosting fall barbecue

WATSONVILLE — The Committee for the Student Ambassador and Exchange Program of the Slavic American Cultural Organization invites the public to its fall barbecue at the Pajaro Valley Historical Association, 332 East Beach St. in Watsonville, on Sunday, Oct. 8 at noon.

The social hour is followed by a ribeye and prawn lunch. Tickets are $35 for members and $40 for nonmembers. Children under 12 are $15. Advanced ticket purchase is necessary as no tickets will be sold at the door.  

Reservations must be made by Sept. 28.

After school program holding car show

SANTA CRUZ — The Live Oak Child Development Program is hosting its first-ever Santa Cruz Air Cooled VW Car Show Fundraiser at Live Oak Elementary School, 1916 Capitola Road in Santa Cruz, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday to raise funds for supplies for the preschool and after school programs.

The cost to register your VW Air Cooled Car for the show is $30 early bird and $35 the day of the event.

There will also be a raffle, voting for your favorites and trophies, music and food.
