Ernesto Lopez died Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at home in Watsonville. He was 78.
A native of Michoacan, Mexico, Mr. Lopez lived in Watsonville for the past 40 years. Before he retired, he was a bush berry picker for Driscoll’s. Mr. Lopez loved to sing and people called him the “Cantador.” He was known as a hard worker and a loving father and grandfather.
Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife, Maria Piedad Lopez; sons, Martin Lopez of Texas, Fernando Lopez of Washington, and Salvador, Gilberto, Antonio and Julio Lopez of Watsonville; daughters, Angela Sanchez of Arizona and Yolanda Duron of Bakersfield; 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-9 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m., at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
