A ride for life

WATSONVILLE — The group of firefighters who arrived on bicycle for a stopover in Watsonville Monday had come nearly 150 miles, and has hundreds still to go.

Having began their journey in Marin on Aug. 9, the 46 riders were on their third stop in a journey that will take them more than 500 miles in seven days, with their final stop in Los Angeles on the 15th.

Their barbecue dinner, provided by the Watsonville Fire Department, has become a tradition, with dozens of spandex-clad firefighters eating and chatting animatedly.
