WATSONVILLE — Working through their self-designed solar company, Pajaro Valley Unified School District high school students Fox Williams and Jailene Lazaro spent the past week designing an energy-saving solar project, complete with cost-savings estimates.

Their plans also included a comprehensive financing plan for the estimated $36,000 project, but it’s unlikely it will be needed. The fictional assignment was the culmination of the weeklong PVUSD Summer Solar Academy held at Cabrillo College’s Solari Center.

“All of it was really educational and informational,” said Lazaro, 16, who attends Aptos High School. “Coming here there was a lot I didn’t know, but there is a lot we can do to make the world a better place.”
