WATSONVILLE The local chapter of Women, Infant & Children held their annual plaza rally and Breastfeeding Awareness March through downtown Friday.

Hundreds of people filled the plaza where information tables were set up in concert with the Watsonville Certified Farmers Market. Organizers handed out information at the eighth annual event, which was also the 40th birthday of WIC.

The march is designed to bring attention to the importance of breastfeeding. It coincides with similar marches in August in 170 countries to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world.
