Posted: Wednesday, Aug 6th, 2014

SANTA CRUZ ó A preliminary hearing began Tuesday in the 2013 shooting case in Live Oak that left an innocent bystander blinded from a shotgun blast.

Damien Axel Herrera, 21, of Watsonville is the accused shooter while he allegedly worked in concert with Giavanna Hagio, 19, and Juan Manuel Castillo, 22, April 19.

Hagio, Herrera and Esteban Sanchez were reportedly thrown out of a party after they got into an argument at the Seaside Apartments at the corner of 30th Avenue at Brommer Street. Hagio reportedly intentionally spilled a beer on Sanchez after he said something she didnít care for. As Hagio walked away, Sanchez reportedly tripped her. Hagio then told Herrera, her boyfriend, about the incident and Herrera came after Sanchez. Tempers flared and they were tossed out of the birthday party.
