SANTA CRUZ — A man who reportedly stabbed his wife on Christmas was sentenced to 15 years, District Attorney Bob Lee announced Tuesday.

Carlos Rolando Sanchez of Watsonville, 38, was sentenced to 15 years in the California Department of Corrections for attempted murder, inflicting great bodily injury upon his wife and the use of a knife.

In the early morning hours of Christmas Day, 2012, Sanchez and the victim began to argue about their son, age 3, while in the children’s bedroom. Sanchez reportedly grabbed the victim by her hair and pulled her to the ground. He held a knife to her throat. He placed her in a chokehold and strangled her until she lost consciousness. Their son was screaming for Sanchez to stop, police said.
