MANRESA STATE BEACH — Thousands of dead fish washed ashore at Manresa State Beach Thursday night, coming in on the high tide after likely being dumped by a fishing boat.
The small fish, called white croaker, were strewn at the high tide line in a thick swath several thousand feet long just north of the main entrance to the beach.
Hundreds of beachgoers studied the piles of fish, which also drew thousands of shorebirds.
“I’ve been walking this beach for the past 30 years and I’ve never seen anything like it,” said one woman who came in for a closer look.
