SANTA CRUZ — The woman who allegedly injected a lethal amount of heroin into a Silicon Valley executive on his yacht before cleaning up and leaving pleaded not guilty Wednesday.

Santa Cruz County Judge Timothy Volkmann denied a request to release Alix Tichelman, 26, on her own recognizance, or to lower her $1.5 million bail.

She is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 20.

The brief court appearance was attended by a horde of print and television journalists, and by Tichelman’s father, mother and sister, all of whom declined to comment on their way out of court.
