Still molding young minds

WATSONVILLE When Bevey Calahan was 9 years old, she heard a slogan that would have a profound impact on her life.

"The child who reads is the child who leads," are the words that she never forgot.

And so the retired teacher has now penned her first book, "Shirley's Surprise Bus Ride," fittingly geared toward children.

Calahan will be at Crossroads Books, 1935 Main St. in Watsonville, Saturday from 1-3 p.m. to sign copies of her book.
