WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville City Council denied a business' appeal to reject a proposed women's shelter downtown Tuesday.
The Council voted 6-1 against the appeal, and also determined the Planning Commission did not act an error with its unanimous vote for Teen Challenge Monterey Bay's shelter on May 6. Councilwoman Nancy Bilicich dissented.
Timothy Walsh of Walsh & Roach, LLP at 45 Brennan St., who filed the appeal, said the decision to convert the 20,000-square-foot former Baker Brothers Furniture store, on 55 Brennan St., into a 94-bed shelter for women and children, as well as a women's drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility, would negatively impact traffic in the already congested area.
