WATSONVILLE — Harold Griffith, known widely as an anti-tax crusader who fought to keep government honest and who taught himself to successfully navigate the legal system, died Monday after a battle with cancer. He was 65.

Virginia Hunt, with whom Griffith lived for 20 years and married five years ago, said his health had been declining, and recently stopped treatment.

“The end was sudden, but it wasn’t a surprise,” she said.

Hunt described Griffith as a brilliant man with an active mind and a deep interest in the legal process.
