Grand jury looks at water supplies, county jail

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — After years of overuse, population growth throughout Santa Cruz County and an ongoing drought, Soquel Creek Water District and Santa Cruz Water Department are facing a massive water crisis, the Santa Cruz County Grand Jury said in a report released Tuesday.

The 19-member grand jury’s report also focuses on how the county deals with chronic alcoholics, probes the county’s water supply and need for supply alternatives and looks at the county’s mental health funding.

In addition, the grand jury investigated overcrowding and other problems at the county’s three jail facilities.
