WATSONVILLE ó Herman Chin Goon died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at his home in Watsonville. He was 89.
Mr. Goon was a Watsonville native attending local grammar schools and Watsonville High School until World War II broke out, and he joined the U.S. Navy. Following the war, he returned to Watsonville and attended Hartnell College in Salinas.
Mr. Goon was a partner in both G.B. Family Wear in Watsonville and Salinas Department Store for 45 years. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church and was quite active in his retirement. He was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, helping them build homes well into his 80ís. Mr. Goon also belonged to S.I.R.S., Toastmasters, 65+ Club, and the Chinese Community of Watsonville.
Mr. Goon was the last of nine children. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Frances and Evelyn Goon; brother-in-law, Charlie Shew; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 16 at 11:30 a.m., at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park. Donations are preferred to Habitat for Humanity, 121 Habitat St., Americus, GA 31709-3498, the Pajaro Valley Community Health Trust, 85 Nielson St., Watsonville, Ca 95076, or charity of your choice. Mehlís Colonial Chapel has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
