Local Round Up: Mariners' girls break 4x3200 record at Wildcat Relays

Aptos girl’s 4x3200-meter relay team shattered the Wildcat Relays record 48 minutes, 3.14 seconds Saturday at Watsonville High.

The team of Clare Peabody, Matti Peoples, Yulisa Abundis and Olivia Quinn set the record at 46:34.93.

Other first place girl’s teams were: 4x800, distance medley, 4x400, long jump, triple jump and discus.

The Mariners boy’s took first in the 4x3200, 4x100, 4x800, sprint medley relay, 4x110, distance medley relay and the 4x400.

Watsonville - The Watsonville Wildcatz’s Raymond Silver recorded the top marks in the high jump and the long jump in Saturday’s Wildcat Relays at Watsonville High.

His leap of 20-4 1/4 in the long jump was the best that day and he cleared 6-6 to place first in the High jump.

Watsonville’s 4x400-meter hurdles finished first at 4 minutes, and 33.23 seconds.

North Monterey County - North Monterey County’s Victoria Teraji and Taylor Blaha both set top marks in their events at Saturday’s Wildcat Relays at Watsonville High.

Teraji’s 100-5 toss in the discus edged Aptos’ Ashley Doherty’s throw of 100-3 for the longest throw of the day.

Blaha impressed with a long jump of 17 1/1, a 4-10 high jump and a 34 flat triple jump. All three were the best of all the girls.

St. Francis - St. Francis Central Coast Catholic’s team of Sam Magno, Michael Sanchez, Taylor Gregg and Braxton Rico earned a fourth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay at he Wildcat Relays Saturday at Watsonville High.

The same group finished fifth in the distance medley.



Cabrillo 2, MPC 1 - TThe Cabrillo Seahawks had to go 12 innings to take down Monterey Peninsula College Saturday at the Nest in Aptos.

Drake Yoshio went 3-of-5 and Spencer Lamb and Conner Havst scored Cabrillo’s two runs.

Nat Hamby got the start and went eight complete innings before giving way to Eddy Puga.

Puga pitched four solid innings allowing one walk and five hits, while preserving the win.

Cabrillo (7-10, 4-1) travels to play San Mateo College today at 2:30 p.m.



Aptos 5, Carmel 4 - The Aptos Mariners edged Carmel 5-4 Friday.

Michelle Firebaugh recorded the win with four innings of work. The senior pitcher struck out five.

Carly Stanton went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Marrisa Curtis was 1-of-2 and recorded an RBI. Jennifer Segura scored a run.

Aptos (1-2) will make the trip to Saratoga for a 4 p.m. game Tuesday.
