WATSONVILLE — The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs got a much need 7-2 win against the Valley Christian Vikings of Dublin Thursday thanks to Nicki Peternel and Mara Arroyo’s hot bats.

Peternel was 1-of-3 with a double and three RBIs and Arroyo, the reigning Monterey Bay League Pacific Most Valuable Player, added two more RBIs.

Thursday’s win was a far cry from the tough 14-0, mercy-rule shortened loss they took against the Salinas Cowboys the day before.

“It was good because it was just yesterday,” said Monte Vista Christian head coach Mark Treanor. “I was a little bit worried about the girl’s moral being down, but we talked at the end yesterday’s game and basically said, ‘look take some of this game, remember it, and put the rest away and start fresh like it never happened.

“We had to put it behind us, and they did.”
