CCS Soccer Playoffs: Aptos falls to top-seeded Cougars

Modified: Thursday, Mar 6th, 2014

Aptos High's Chris Pacheco fights Half Moon Bay High's Arturo Mesa for the ball during the first half of their CCS D-III semifinal contest Wednesday at Aptos High.

APTOS — The Aptos Mariners historical season came to an end in the Central Central Coast Section Division-III semifinals by way of a 5-2, Wednesday-night loss to Half Moon Bay.

“I’m proud of the team,” said Aptos High head coach Roberto Zuniga. “We’re happy.”

In just his second year, Zuniga led the Mariners (11-5-2, 8-2-2) to their first Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League title in 31 years, earned a trip to the Central Coast Section playoffs for the first time since 2001 and was named SCCAL Coach of the Year.

But Wednesday that season came to an end.
