Students get their own Google Chromebooks

WATSONVILLE — Hundreds of students at Lakeview Middle School began their day Monday by learning how to use their new Google Chromebooks.

After sitting through a short session in which they learned how to use and care for the devices, they were given a carrying case and a charger, and took the devices home. The computers will be theirs until they turn them in at the end of the year, and they will use them in virtually every aspect of their education.

“That’s the power of it,” principal Ken Woods said. “They can go from class to class and they bring their work with them.”

A Chromebook is a small, personal computer similar to an iPad. Unlike the Apple devices, Chromebooks feature a keyboard.
