Former foster parent faces new molestation charge

SOQUEL — A Soquel man already charged with molesting children is facing new charges after he was arrested Feb. 14 when investigators identified a fourth victim, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Steven Weissman, 57, had been a foster parent for approximately 16 years when he was arrested Aug. 3.

Investigators began an investigation after someone reported that a 14-year-old boy had been molested. After further investigation, they identified two additional victims.

Weissman was not in custody Tuesday, jail records showed.

In addition to his time as a foster parent, Weissman was involved with youth activities and volunteered at local elementary schools, deputies said. Investigators believe that additional victims may exist based on the contact Weissman had with children in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division at 454-2311, or the anonymous tip line at 454-2847.
