SANTA CRUZ — A man died Wednesday night after crashing his car into the front of the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz, then slashing himself in the neck with broken glass, the Santa Cruz Police Department said Thursday.

According to police, the 34-year-old driver was traveling northbound on Seabright Avenue approximately 10:45 p.m. when he drove through the intersection and into the kiosk at the front of the theater.

The collision destroyed the kiosk in front and sent the car approximately 30 feet into the lobby.

“There was no attempt to slow or stop by the driver,” Santa Cruz Police Deputy Chief Steve Clark stated.
