PAJARO — A man was arrested at gunpoint Thursday after a tense three-hour standoff in a small convenience store.

According to witnesses, the man had attempted to rob G’s Market at 120 Salinas Road in Pajaro at approximately 12:15 p.m. but police arrived before he could leave. Nearly 20 patrol cars soon arrived from Watsonville Police Department, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol and dozens of officers spent hours with their guns pointed at the open doors of the market.

The suspect, whom deputies have not yet identified, came out willingly just before 3 p.m.

A team of heavily armed officers then approached the corner market and used their K-9 dog to flush out the building. Deputies then entered the business to make sure there were no more suspects.

It was unclear whether anyone was injured in the incident.

Salinas Road was blocked in both directions at Jonathan Street for three hour, and Pajaro Middle School was on lockdown as the incident unwound.

Dozens of onlookers crowded along Salinas Road for a view of the action.
