Helping students make their goals

WATSONVILLE — In a small classroom on the outskirts of the Watsonville High School campus, a group of young men was gathered around a table Thursday, their heads bent toward their textbooks as they did their homework.

Perhaps their focus on studying was due to the presence of college-aged tutors from CSU Monterey Bay, or maybe their energy was tamped slightly by the energetic soccer game they had played just moments before.

But whatever the reason, organizers from Breakaway College Access Project say the combination of soccer and academia is perfect for young people who need a place to study and who share their community’s passion for the internationally beloved game.
