WATSONVILLE — Lucy the Climber has traveled far in a short span of time.

Sculpted out of packaging tape, Lucy was crafted by students from Seattle-based Puget Sound Community School, with the purpose of accompanying tourists as they travel to different parts of the world. Lucy’s “adventures” are tracked through social media, where the students can follow along on the art project’s journey.

It was in Seattle where Lucy fell into the hands of Watsonville resident Kelly Barreto, and that’s where the journey began.

While on a family trip to the Northwest, they spotted the art project at Pike Place Market, where the students had first placed Lucy on Jan. 24, and decided to take it along on their trip, Barreto said.
