WATSONVILLE — Seeking to relieve the traffic congestion on Harkins Slough Road when students enter and leave Pajaro Valley High School, Watsonville city officials will seek funding to construct a pedestrian overpass next to the current bridge over Highway 1.
According to Maria Ester Rodriguez, assistant director of public works and utilities, in 1998, the city received more than $7 million in funding to reconstruct the Harkins Slough Road overpass into a four-lane bridge and add an off-ramp on southbound Highway 1 and an on-ramp to northbound.
The project was postponed as the city worked on other projects, such as building Pajaro Valley High School and a bridge over Struve Slough on Harkins Slough Road, Rodriguez said.
