WATSONVILLE — The Santa Cruz County Clerk has validated more than 2,400 signatures on two charter amendments; one that would let Watsonville voters decide who fills City Council vacancies, and another that would require the mayor chosen on a rotating basis.
Currently, the Council appoints the mayor and fills vacancies when council members die or retire early.
The Watsonville City Council will decide at its Feb. 11 meeting whether the issues appear on the June or November election.
The Council will make the same decision at its meeting tonight about a separate initiative that would require voter approval to rename public places in Watsonville. For the complete article see the 01-28-2014 issue.
