Using tech to tackle trash

WATSONVILLE — A legion of kids from Linscott Charter School — some 280 in all — donned latex gloves and took trash bags in hand Friday morning on a mission to clean their campus. Their efforts would literally put Watsonville on the map.

The project was part of Litterati, a program launched a year and a half ago by Oakland resident Jeff Kirschner

The idea came when Kirschner was taking a walk in the Oakland Hills with his 3-year-old daughter and they saw that someone had dumped a tub of cat litter into a stream.
