WATSONVILLE — One of Watsonville Police department’s highest decorated officers has chosen an abrupt early retirement after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Officer Skip Prigge, 47, was recently diagnosed with ALS and retired last week, said Chief Manny Solano.

“He was one of our highest decorated officers,” Solano said. “He has received many awards and medals from our department for his devotion to duty. Officer Prigge testified numerous times as a court recognized expert in narcotics, gangs, firearms, graffiti and arson.”
