SEASIDE — Under the sunny, dry skies that have dominated much of the winter, thousands of people gathered in Seaside Monday morning to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Los Arboles Middle School student Kobe Camel, 11, said the celebration meant “everything” to him.

“He fought for us,” he said. “When all the civil rights issues were going on, he took people to march with him."
