SANTA CRUZ — A preliminary hearing wrapped up last week in court for Autreydez Maldonado, 20, a Watsonville man suspected of stabbing his younger brother to death.
Attorney Tara George of the District Attorney’s office had witness Joseph Ochoa, who is a biological brother to Maldonado and the victim, Jeovahni Maldonado, 17, describe what led up to the Nov. 1 stabbing.
Ochoa, soft-spoken and understated, said he and his two brothers were returning to the Maldonado home, at 38 Buena Vista Drive, from a Halloween party at 7:25 a.m. The Maldonado brothers had been arguing and the argument escalated as they reached the home.
Ochoa told the court that Jeovahni got out of the car first and walked toward the home.
“Jeo was very upset about something Autrey had said,” Ochoa said.
