Memorial for two fallen officers takes shape

SANTA CRUZ When Santa Cruz Police Sgt. Butch Baker and Detective Elizabeth Baker were shot and killed Feb. 26 while on duty, Cindy West happened to be near the scene of the shooting. She also lives nearby so the tragedy clutched her in a big way.

So when the idea circulated around the community of a memorial in the works, West, who owns Unique Landscape Designs, found a calling.

I just had to do something so I contacted the police department, West said.
