WATSONVILLE — Albert Keith Pierce died in Watsonville on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. He was 86.
Mr. Pierce was born in Long Beach. He moved to Watsonville with his mother, Dr. Gayle C. Pierce, when she established a practice here in the 1930s. He graduated from Watsonville High School in 1945, and from the University of the Pacific on the G.I. Bill. He met his first wife, Kalinka Szukalska, while touring Mexico on a motorcycle. Financial necessity led to living in while renovating abandoned colonial era houses in New England during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
He returned to the Santa Cruz area in 1965 and started a successful career as a private real estate investor. After his first marriage ended in divorce, he married Gretta Barr and they moved to her home town of Clatskanie, Ore. Upon Gretta’s passing, Mr. Pierce returned to the Santa Cruz area. He then married Maggie Victor and they traveled extensively for several years before retiring in Florida. After being hit by three successive hurricanes in 2004, they decided the Santa Cruz area was a better choice and returned home again.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie; children, Keith and Deborah; and two grandchildren.
