WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville man who shot and killed one man and seriously injured a woman in a July 25 shooting last year will spend at least 60 years in prison, Santa Cruz County District Attorney Bob Lee announced Monday.

Miller, 35, pleaded guilty in August to first-degree murder, attempted murder, and special allegations of using of a gun for killing Watsonville resident Dominic Mower, 37, and trying to kill Candy McCullough.

A Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge sentenced him to 60 years to life, meaning he will have to serve six decades before he is eligible for parole.

Miller had prior felony offenses on drug-related charges, so he also faced enhancements for using a gun.

In the early morning hours of July 25, 2012, Dominic Mower and a female companion were at Mower's residence at 200 Prospect St. in Watsonville.

According to prosecutors, Miller believed that Mower owed him money, so he went to Mower’s residence under the guise of selling heroin. He then shot Mower four times in the face, and shot his female companion three times, including one shot to the head. He then beat them both severely with the butt of the gun.

Watsonville Police responded to a report of a woman who had been shot after she showed up at a resident’s front door pleading for help. A blood trail led police to Mower.
