WATSONVILLE ó Anita A. Noriega died on Friday, September 13, 2013, in a local convalescent home in Watsonville. She was 87.
Mrs. Noriega moved to Watsonville over 70 years ago. She worked at local canneries, including Green Giant Cannery and Watsonville Cannery, for 20 years. Mrs. Noriega loved to crochet, cook, play dominos and watch the San Francisco Giants play. She also loved to care for her family.
Mrs. Noriega is survived by her children, Maria Raya of Aptos, Linda Raya of Visalia, Connie Raya of Salinas, Shirley (James) Starr of Texas and John (Vicki) Ortega, and Yolanda Ortega, both of Watsonville; siblings, Carrie, Josefina and George all of Arizona; 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Ortega; and son, Joe Ortega.
Graveside services will be held at Valley Public Cemetery on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Mehlís Colonial Chapel was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
