WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville City Council Tuesday is set to reject a legal claim from a company that was busted by police last month for suspected illegal gambling.
In his claim against the city, San Francisco attorney Matthew Yan said the Urban PCS store at the East Lake Village Shopping Center at 982 East Lake Ave. has been suffering more than $10,000 per day in lost revenue, and that it suffered a loss of more than $141,000 when police took 38 computers, surveillance equipment and the cash in the store. In addition, police froze bank accounts and assets belonging to Urban PCS.
The business was advertised as a place to get cell phones, prepaid phone cards and make international calls for 3 cents per minute. Fax, copy and email services were also offered.
But all that was a front for an illegal gambling parlor, police said.
