WATSONVILLE — Just days after a news story ran about the theft of several bicycles from a special education class, several people and local companies have come forward with donations to replace them.

So far two companies have donated more than $2,500, said special day school teacher Cathy McMinn.

“It’s amazing,” she said. “It makes you feel good that the community supports us. “It’s nice to see that people really do care.”

Watsonville Cadillac Buick GMC on Friday donated $1,000.

Service Manager Randy Van Winkle said the donation was part of the company’s philanthropic philosophy.

“When they hit the special needs kids, it really hit the owner,” he said. “We wanted to do something right away.”
