WATSONVILLE — Watsonville Police are looking for a man who allegedly used a syringe and a knife to rob a jewelry store Saturday.

Eric Sanchez, 43, reportedly told the clerk at Ideal Jewelry he had communicable diseases when he brandished the syringe, police said.

Police declined to say what disease Sanchez claimed to have, citing medical privacy laws.

According to the WPD, Sanchez entered the store on the 1400 block of Freedom Boulevard, brandished the weapons and told the clerk to hand over jewelry. He then fled on a bicycle.

Investigators soon identified Sanchez as the suspect, and a search of his residence turned up stolen property from the store, police said.

Sanchez was not located at the residence and is currently wanted for robbery charges.

It was the second time in two weeks the store has been robbed.

On the morning of Aug. 14, a masked suspect walked into the store, brandished a gun and demanded cash.

As he fled the store, he left the stolen loot behind. The suspect was not located.

No one was harmed in either incident.

Sanchez is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information or knowledge of Sanchez’ whereabouts is asked to call the Watsonville Police Departments Investigations Division at 768-3350 or the crime tip line at 768-3544, or 911.
