WATSONVILLE — A Watsonville man was arrested Saturday night after allegedly firing several shots in his backyard, the Watsonville Police Department announced.
Andres Navarro, 38, was charged with negligent use of a firearm and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail. He was not in custody Monday morning.
Watsonville Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Lincoln Street approximately 5:15 p.m. for a report of three males with guns threatening the reporting party.
As officers were approaching the residence, they heard several gunshots being fired from the suspect’s backyard. The officers converged on the residence thinking someone may have been shot, and then established a perimeter around the residence. They were unable, however, to locate any gunshot victims or people fleeing the area.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol and the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force responded to assist.
Officers saw Navarro in the backyard armed with a handgun, then saw him go on to the roof of his residence for a short period of time and then back into his residence, police said.
After several minutes, Navarro came out and surrendered to police.
Police searched several residences and backyards for any other armed subjects to no avail.
Further investigation revealed no evidence of armed subjects who threatened Navarro or any other residents in the neighborhood. Navarro’s gun was recovered.
