WATSONVILLE — Antonio Soto died surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 18, 2013, after a nine-month-long battle with cancer. He was 80.
Mr. Soto was born on Oct. 15, 1932, in Chinati, Texas. He was a truck driver in the Salinas Valley until his retirement when he settled in Watsonville. He later worked as a volunteer for the Food Bank of Santa Cruz County. Mr. Soto will be remembered for being a true gentleman, putting aside whatever he was doing to come to the assistance of those who asked for help. He leaves behind a legacy of respect and simplicity.
Mr. Soto is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maria Soto; children, Oscar (Georgina) Soto, Lucy (Andrew) Morales, Elia Coronado of Iowa, Tony Soto Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Diana, Delia and Janie Soto of Merced; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Thursday from 5-9 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church on Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
