S.C. Warriors competing in Summer League

Posted: Saturday, Jul 13th, 2013

Seven Santa Cruz Warriors players are scheduled to compete in 2013 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, including two on the Golden State Warriors and two on the NBA D-League Select Team.

Cameron Jones, who was named the D-League Most Improved Player last season, and Lance Goulbourne have been named to the Golden State Warriors Summer League roster. They will join Scott Machado and Kent Bazemore, who each spent time last season in Santa Cruz, and they will play alongside the likes of Draymond Green and Nemanja Nedovic, the 30th overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft.

Machado earned a Gatorade D-League Call-Up last season from the Golden Sate Warriors during the final weeks of the D-League season. He was down on loaners with Santa Cruz from Golden State throughout their run in the D-League post season and played key minutes in their run through to the D-League Finals, where the Rio Grande Valley Vipers eventually beat them.

Stefhon Hannah, who earned his second consecutive NBA D-League Defensive Player of the Year award last season, and Mickell Gladness have been named to the NBA D-League Select Team. Santa Cruz Warriors assistant coach Casey Hill will be a member of the coaching staff of the Select Team, which is comprised of 12 top NBA D-League prospects.

NBA D-League All Star Game MVP Travis Leslie is expected to play on the Miami Heat Summer League team in Las Vegas. He is also a member of the Philadelphia 76ers Summer League team, which is one of 10 teams currently competing in Orlando Pro Summer League. Leslie led the Warriors in both scoring and rebounding throughout the last season.

In addition, Santa Cruz Warriors big man Jeremy Tyler has been named to the New York Knicks Summer League team and Darington Hobson has been named to the Memphis Grizzlies Summer League roster.

2013 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas began Friday and will run through July 22. Each team is slated to play three preliminary games before participating in at least two more contests, as they compete for the inaugural NBA Summer League Championship.

The Golden State Warriors will begin their summer campaign against the Washington Wizards today at 1 p.m. on NBA TV, while the NBA D-League Select Team will start Summer League play against the Minnesota Timberwolves (whose roster includes former Santa Cruz Warrior Chris Johnson) today at 3:30 p.m.
