APTOS — Crowds lined Soquel Drive in Aptos for the 52nd annual “World’s Shortest Parade” on Independence Day.

Sitting comfortably in a lawn chair outside a very crowded The Original Ferrell’s Donut’s shop, was Aptos resident Nancy Shultz.

Shultz had never been to the parade before and was looking forward to watching the assortment of floats, bands and dancing groups make their way down Soquel Drive alongside regular parade attendee and neighbor Jeannie.

Both had gone to the early morning pancake breakfast and had been lucky enough to secure two spots with a great view of the street.

Next to the pair was Robert Rothhammer grilling up steak and egg tacos from a caravan he’s parked at the same vacant lot on Soquel Drive every year for the past 10 Independence Day parades.
