WATSONVILLE — A plan to bring a Walgreens drug store to downtown fell through after two sewer lines directly beneath the property proved too costly to relocate for the developer.
The sewer lines aren't designed to support the weight of the building, said Kurt Overmeyer, economic development manager, and would need to be relocated.
"That just made it so the cost would be too expensive," he said.
The Watsonville City Council agreed to sell the piece of property, located near the intersection of Riverside Drive and Main Street across from American Fuels, in December.
