Michael Chavez passed away on Thursday, June 6th at his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 58.
Michael served the students of Santa Cruz County as a youth guidance and clinical counselor for more than 25 years. He supported the community and families of Watsonville to prevent intergenerational gang activities and the cycle of violence and worked to create a healthy community. He dedicated his life to changing the lives of the disenfranchised youth and less fortunate. He was a pillar in his community.
Michael is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rosie Chavez; his son, Michael Che Chavez and his girlfriend Monica Campos; his grandson, Michael Steven Chavez; brothers, David (Delia) Hermosillo, Joaquin Chavez, Samuel (Nicole) Chavez; sister, Charlene Chavez; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Michael was welcomed into eternal life by his father and mother, Leopoldo and Grace Chavez.
A visitation and celebration of Michael’s life will be held at St. Patrick’s Church at 721 Main St. in Watsonville on Friday, June 14th at 1 p.m. Arrangements were entrusted to Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.For the complete article see the 06-13-2013 issue.
