WATSONVILLE — Michael Chavez died on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 58.
Mr. Chavez was born in Hollister on Dec. 28, 1954, to Leopoldo and Grace Chavez. He served the students of Santa Cruz County as a youth guidance and clinical counselor for more than 25 years. He supported the community and families of Watsonville to prevent intergenerational gang activities and the cycle of violence and worked to create a healthy community. He dedicated his life to changing the lives of the disenfranchised youth and less fortunate. He was a pillar in his community.
Mr. Chavez is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rosie Chavez; his son, Michael Che Chavez and his girlfriend Monica Campos; one grandson; brothers, David (Delia) Hermosillo, Joaquin Chavez, Samuel (Nicole) Chavez; sister, Charlene Chavez; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation and celebration of Mr. Chavez’s life will be held at St. Patrick’s Church at 721 Main St. in Watsonville on Friday at 1 p.m. Arrangements were entrusted to Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.
