CAPITOLA Dressed in the black clerical robes of the Catholic Church, Father Wayne Dawson cuts an impressive figure.

Standing among the statues of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Capitola, where he has been the priest since July, Dawson is welcoming on this cool morning even though he is feeling a bit under the weather and is about to embark on a week-long conference.

Heralding from Cape Town, South Africa, Dawson has an interesting back story. From Anglo-Indian and Dutch stock, Dawson became a priest 16 years ago and has an identical twin who is also a Catholic priest.

After Dawson immigrated to the United States 10 years ago, the only relatives remaining in South Africa are a mother and older brother in Cape Town. A sister lives in Boston, while his priest-brother is currently in Puebla, Mexico, where he is studying Spanish. Both his brother and sister are U.S. citizens.
